I am looking for a way to convert.3ds or.obj.fbx files to.stl format for example I have a model of a human head and i only want the face.
I'm in currently in my high-school engineering class and we have access to a 3d printer. I found a file online that I want to print, but it's currently in.obj format. I've been struggling for about 3 days trying to convert this.obj to an.Stl but I'm not having much luck. I found a program that can convert it, but then when I try to import it into 3d Max to check if it worked it completely crashes. Am I doing it right but I just can't import it after its a.stl, Or am I doing something completely wrong?
Thanks for the help.P. I also tried to import the obj into 3d Max and from there export it to an stl, but every time I do it says there is no data. I'm not sure what that means. 3ds max is ass for importing STL's, try Blender.

If you're dead set on Max (and can't install other programs) untick the option to automatically weld the vertices on import. You'll end up in a world of hurt, but the process will be 1000x faster on complex models.I really do hate 3ds max's STL import 'feature'.If you can install other stuff, also try netfabb basic. It's designed for repairing of STL files so if your stl is broken and it's not just max's shitty import feature then netfabb can potentially repair it automatically.
